Our Story
Rooted in tradition, reimagined for today.
Panaah exists because the most beautiful things in the world are made by hand — and they deserve to be found, named, and worn.
Every piece here comes directly from the artisan who made it. From the kadwa looms of Banarasi to the gossamer weaves of Chanderi, from Madhubani hand painting to Lucknawi Chikankari — this is India's living craft heritage, brought to you without compromise.
Our design philosophy
Panaah is a homegrown Indian brand founded in 2024 by Shruti Sarraf.
It was born from a genuine respect of Indian craftsmanship and a vision to bring it into modern Indian life through functional, contemporary pieces.
We believe in the beauty of balance.
We combine traditional weaving techniques with modern designs to create pieces that are not just worn, but lived in. Each Panaah garment is designed to be functional, beautiful, and deeply connected to Indian culture.
We believe in authenticity over perfection.
Each of our garments is crafted by skilled artisans from across the country, upholding centuries of tradition with every turn of thread. We pride ourselves on being handmade, which is why all our pieces are imperfectly perfect, making each of them unique.
We want our pieces to reflect who you are, not just what you wear.
We believe design goes beyond the garment itself - and into its expression. An innovative draping here, a modern twist on accessories there, a pop of bold color paired with a muted print - our garments are meant for experimentation, and an authentic expression of who you are.
We’re committed to sustainability
Sustainability is at the core of what we do. We use locally sourced materials, supporting local economies and reducing our environmental impact.
A Note From The Founder
I didn't set out to build a brand. I set out to find something real.
It started in Kolkata, during my time at NIFT, when I visited a handloom cluster in Bengal for the first time. I watched artisans bent over their looms in the heat, their hands moving with a precision that took decades to learn, pouring everything they had into a single piece of fabric. Something shifted in me that day that never shifted back.
I have always been drawn to purity. I don't own imitation jewellery — not because I can afford gold, but because something that pretends to be what it isn't feels like a small betrayal. I feel the same way about fabric. When I hold a handloom saree, something in me settles. The touch is different. The weight is different. The beauty feels earned.
Machine-made fabric has never felt that way to me. It feels like being cheated of something I can't quite name.
After years in the fashion industry — at Swatch, ONLY, and Lifestyle — I kept coming back to the same question: why is the most extraordinary craft in the world the hardest thing to find?
Panaah is my answer.
In Urdu, panaah means shelter. A place you return to. A place that holds you. That is what Indian handloom has always been for me. And that is what I want it to be for you.
Every saree here is sourced directly from the artisan who made it. Every piece is named. Every piece has a story. Nothing here is imitation. Nothing here is made by a machine.
Only the real thing. Always.
